Support the NYC VMware User Group this Wednesday (Scott Lowe Keynote)!

This Wednesday on June 6 the NYC VMUG will be holding an event that you don’t want to miss!  All in one day you will have the chance to participate in many beginner to advanced sessions ranging from Cloud, Virtualization, storage, and networking.  Everyone should be excited to sit in on the VXLAN session which I believe to be the future of virtual networking.  To top it off you will get a chance to hear from Scott Lowe, EMC employee, blogger, and author of the Mastering vSphere series. I had a change to listen to Scott speak at VMworld last years and it is a true pleasure to hear him talk about virtualization technologies.  He is a clear speaker that caters to both beginners and advanced professionals at the same time.

The NYC VMUG has recently been placed under new management and is headed by Aaron Lima @VirtLima.  I had a chance to meet up with Aaron and a few others at a vBeers event and was impressed with his drive and determination to catapult this chapter into the big leagues.  Even though the event can easily sell itself due to the raw material and talent that will be presenting it is a huge challenge to get people through the door.  My co-worker stated that it has a lot to do with the culture of the NYC IT crowd.  I think he’s right as I see the NYC guys put in a ton of hours and tire themselves out by day’s end.  I know from myself 10+ hour days are pretty normal.  Other regions such as the Carolinas, New England, and the mid-west where VMUG events are always packed and have little problem getting people through the door.  Other factors could be the commute via buses and subways which can be a royal pain and being that most people do not live in NYC so they just cannot make the arrangements.  Whatever it may be I think consistency will be the key as us NYC guys needs things to hit us in the face many times before we pay attention.  I’m confident that in a year from now we will have several hundred attendees.

Unfortunately I won’t be attending since I will be at HP Discover in Vegas but I look forward to helping Aaron out on planning the next event and getting involved on a greater scale.

Sign up here to get registered for this Wednesday’s event.  Check out the agenda, pretty awesome for a free event!  –Justin Vashisht
